Giraffe Pictures is a boutique film company founded by Anthony Chen and Huang Wenhong. Based in Singapore, the company prides itself as a home for emerging filmmakers in Asia. Giraffe Pictures aims to be an international label for the best of Asian Cinema, focusing on cinematic creativity and vision, telling unique Asian stories that will resonate with a global audience.

Anthony Chen

Director | Producer

Anthony was trained at film school in Singapore and then at the National Film and Television School, UK. His shorts have screened and been awarded at numerous prestigious festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, Busan, London. He became the first Singaporean to be awarded at Cannes with his 2007 short, AH MA (GRANDMA).

Anthony’s debut feature Ilo Ilo, premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and was unanimously awarded the Camera d’Or. Ilo Ilo went on to win forty awards internationally and gained widespread recognition when it became an arthouse favourite. In addition to its critical acclaim, the film performed well at the box office in Europe and Asia and became the most successful arthouse film in the history of Singapore cinema both commercially and critically. 

Chen was named as one of Variety magazine’s ‘10 Directors to Watch’ in 2014. The same year he launched Giraffe Pictures in Singapore, a boutique film company with an aim to nurture new voices in Asia. 

Chen’s latest film, Wet Season, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2019 and was once again celebrated critically, garnering 10 awards so far.

He currently lives in Hong Kong with his wife and son.

Huang Wenhong

Producer

A well known radio and media personality in Singapore, Huang Wenhong has accumulated 20 years of experience in television, radio, web and print. Over the years, he has hosted some of the most successful morning shows on radio.

Wenhong was an associate producer on the Cannes Caméra d'Or-winning debut feature Ilo Ilo. Following Ilo Ilo’s success, he co founded Giraffe Pictures with Anthony Chen in 2014 to support new voices in Asia.

He was the producer for Distance, an anthology drama film directed by Xin Yukun, Tan Shijie and Sivaroj Kongsakul and starring Chen Bolin, Jiang Wenli, Tony Yang, Paul Chun and Chayanit Chansangavej. The film opened Taiwan Golden Horse Film Festival in 2015.

Most recently, Wenhong produced the critically acclaimed Wet Season by Anthony Chen.

Teoh Yi Peng

Business Affairs

Yi Peng is an alumnus of Brown University and has previous experience in the institutional investment management and technology industry.

He is based in Hong Kong and oversees Giraffe Pictures’ operational strategy, business affairs, finance, and business development activities.
